mp3DirectCut is a free program that allows you to edit audio tracks. With its help, you can easily cut out certain parts of songs to create ringtones for your cell phone. In front of you is the full version.

Among other features, the app also offers the ability to change the volume of the file and insert a simple fade-out effect - great for placing between songs from the same album.

Although mp3DirectCut can act as a voice recorder, it requires a special DLL file to properly perform the recording function. The rest of the program's features are limited to selecting markup points on the audio track and moving selected fragments.

Selecting, cutting and saving

• The program has an option to make the interface completely in Portuguese, which appears when you first start the program. When the settings window opens, select “PortugueseBr” from the drop-down menu.
• At the top right of the interface are options that change the location of the audio track. Left-click at the beginning and right-click at the end to select a region, and use File > Save Selection.... to create a new file.
• The bottom of the screen displays options for navigating, editing and playing audio, the former of which is ideal for selecting precise sections of music as it has tools to move just one second in the selected file. In the playback section, you can listen to only the marked area in different options, which is great for creating phonetic transcriptions or learning to play musical instruments.

My opinion

• mp3DirectCut's interface is confusing due to the overabundance of superfluous options and buttons, most of which could be replaced with a mouse-related function. Despite this, the sheer number of shortcuts can be considered a positive thing, as they speed up the program's tools - although this is only useful for those who are quite adept at editing.
• Although mp3DirectCut has several options for trimming and editing audio fragments in a single track, it has very few features: fade-in effect, volume change, music fragment selection and trimming - which will only satisfy those who don't have a lot of demands when using a program of this type.
