FreeRIP 5.1.7.5

14-04-2025, 10:21

FreeRIP did not appear immediately, but due to its quality it quickly gained popularity among users. With its simple but full-featured interface, FreeRIP has everything it needs to grow and grow until it becomes one of the most famous in its category. With its help you can extract songs from your CDs and convert them to MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, FLAC and WAV formats, meaning the most popular audio formats are supported.

Using FreeRIP is very easy, but it is important to note that you should be very careful when installing it, as you will be prompted to install a toolbar for your browser. When the window below appears, uncheck the box if you don't want the toolbar to be installed in your browser.

In the next step, you will also be prompted to install partner icons on your desktop. Uncheck “Install eBay icons on desktop” so that no additional icons are created. The image below highlights the option that should be unchecked.

 Extracting CDs:

Many music extraction and conversion programs look for track information in databases such as CDDB, FreeDB, etc. However, in order to utilize this feature, you need to click on the appropriate button. FreeRIP, in addition to having its own online database, automatically searches and changes information on the disk without requiring user action. In other words, simply insert the CD into the drive, select the format and click the “Rip selected tracks” button for FreeRIP to do its job.

Selecting a conversion format:

There's also a tag editor so you can manually change the song information if you notice any errors, or just leave everything to your liking.

My opinion:

FreeRIP has some problems with the interface. The window is cluttered with too many icons and buttons. The developers could have simply separated each function better, using menus or other resources. The icons could contain text with the function name. The button to start the extraction process is not as prominent as it should be because it is in the middle of the rest.

Despite this, the program is worth downloading and installing, as the problems do not affect satisfactory performance. The fact that the program supports the conversion of the most popular audio formats also puts it ahead of many competitors, as many of them are only able to convert to MP3.
